The band was established in 1945 attending their first St. Patricks Day parade at Meenacross Mass. The band went onto compete for many years at competitions such as Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, Donegal Marching band Association, Ulster Marching Band Association and for the first time in 2014 Limerick's International Band Championship.

In the 1960s Maghery competed with both a Junior and Senior band before resuming to Senior level for many years after. In 2004 the band had to compete in the Junior section for the first time in many years as members were all under the age of 18. The following year in 2005 they moved back to compete at Senior level once more.

The band took a break from competing from 2006-2010. In this time the band continued with Annual parades and performances such as Dungloe Christmas Parade, St. Patrick's Day Mass in Meenacross, Parading there after in Maghery and Dungloe Main Street, Easter Sunday Mass in Dungloe, followed by the annual Easter Sunday Competition on Main St Dungloe and the Mary From Dungloe Festival Parade.

A revival of the competing band took place in 2010 when a Junior band were established in order to begin competing once more. They attended their first All Ireland Fleadh in August 2011. In 2011 a revival of Senior band members reunited to compete at the All Ireland Fleadh also. This was the first time in 50years that both a junior and senior band competed alongside one another.

After 2012's All Ireland Fleadh the then Junior band had now qualified for senior level and had to move into the senior section due to members being over 18 years. The New Senior band moved forward to compete at the Fleadh and some former Senior members continued to compete with us in the ranks. On annual parades the former Senior band still perform.

The New Senior band competed at Senior Level in 2013 and now look forward to competing in 2014.
Our First competition of the year will be at Limerick St Patrick's International Band Championship.
Maghery Band will for their first time in 69years compete at an International Level. It is a very exciting time for the band as they approach their 70th Anniversary in 2015.

Onward and Upwards for Maghery Fife and Drum Band!
